Name: PA Mechanics' Lien Law and the New Amendments: The Owner's Perspective
Date: June 22, 2017
Time: 12:00 PM - 1:15 PM EDT
Event Description:
The Pennsylvania Mechanics’ Lien Law and its New Amendments:
An Owner’s Perspective

Join construction attorneys Lane Kelman and Allie Hallmark of Cohen Seglias for a Lunch & Learn on the new Pennsylvania Mechanics’ Lien Law Amendments. In this session, Lane and Allie will explore these Amendments and how owners can utilize them – and other lien law provisions – to reduce exposure on projects. As most members of the construction industry know, the Lien Law permits contractors and subcontractors to secure payment by filing a mechanics’ lien on the subject property. Because the owner is often not aware of all those performing work on the property, the Lien Law contains many strict filing requirements that serve to protect owners’ rights. The Amendments to the Lien Law add another notice requirement for subcontractors on Pennsylvania projects in excess of $1.5 million. These Amendments, and other lien law provisions, will be discussed along with anecdotal examples in this interactive session.

Lane F. Kelman is a Partner in the Construction Group of Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman PC and Chair of the Firm’s Green Building Practice. With an active and diverse construction litigation practice, Lane represents developers, general contractors, construction managers and different trades in complex construction matters. Allie J. Hallmark is an Associate in the Construction Group of Cohen Seglias Pallas Greenhall & Furman PC. Allie represents the Firm’s construction clients in litigation matters such as delay and design defect claims, contract disputes, enforcement of liquidated damages provisions, and mechanics’ liens and bond claims on both private and public projects.
