One Philadelphia:
The Role of Development and Construction in Fostering Equitable Growth in Our City

With a 26% poverty rate and 4.6% unemployment, it's well known that the City of Philadelphia faces serious economic challenges. Development and construction are vital to Philadelphia's future prosperity. With the benefit of progressive city housing policies and building regulations, the industry can create more jobs, build needed workforce and affordable housing, diversify the industry, and bolster Philadelphia's economy for all residents.

At its 18th annual Builders Conference, the BIA will explore what is being done to expand development opportunities, bring skilled labor into the workforce, deliver more affordable housing, and help promote equitable growth. 

Program and Speakers:

 
  • The State of the Housing Economy by ​Kevin Gillen, Ph.D.Senior Research Fellow at the Lindy Institute for Urban Innovation, Drexel University. Presentation with statistics on Philadelphia’s housing market, the impact real estate and homebuilding have on the city/regional economy, and trends in land prices and sales both citywide and in the Opportunity Zones.
  • Construction, Housing Policy, and Equitable Growth. Guest speakers discuss what is being done to expand development opportunities, bring skilled labor into the workforce, deliver more affordable housing, and help promote equitable growth.
One-on-one debate with Councilwoman Maria D. Quiñones-Sánchez and Rob Wonderling, President & Chief Executive Officer of The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia. Moderated by Leo Addimando, VP BIA and Managing Partner at Alterra Property Group.
 
Panel with Councilman Allan Domb, Councilwoman Helen Gym, Gary Jonas of The HOW Group, and Jim Snell of Steamfitters Local 420.  Moderated by Leo Addimando.
