Event Description:

Once a bustling thoroughfare for industry, the American Street corridor is now teeming with residential and commercial development. For decades, the shuttered factories and paved expanse of the strip’s right-of-way were not welcoming to new residents and small businesses.

The American Street Improvement Project changed all that. The city secured federal dollars to revamp the corridor by reducing the traffic lanes, widening the sidewalks, and adding bike lanes, parking lanes, and green stormwater infrastructure.

Spend an afternoon exploring the rebirth of North American Street and three BIA member projects on a self-guided tour. We’ll all meet for a happy hour at the end hosted by E-Built at The Gotham.

Projects:

1525 North American Street is a mixed-use development project located in Philadelphia’s vibrant Olde Kensington neighborhood. Six Acre Capital acquired the 21K SF vacant land parcel in December 2020 and commenced construction on its 6-story, 105K SF building shortly thereafter. The project, which boasts 300’ of frontage on American Street, is comprised of 110 apartments, six (6) bi-level artist studios, and 2,700 SF of ground-floor corner retail space. Completion is slated for Fall 2022.

1705 North American Street is a 179-unit mixed-use apartment building designed by Atrium Design Group. The project is currently under construction.  The building is amenity forward with a large roof deck, 2-level gym, study space, and other breakout spaces. The finished retail ceiling height is 15’ and there is ~9,000 SF of retail in total.

Located west of Fishtown, The Gotham is a new and innovative mixed-use development designed for the modern urbanite. Featuring 100 residential units and more than 6,000 square feet of newly constructed commercial space, The Gotham was originally home to the Gotham Silk Factory (1917-1935). This unique renovation pays homage to Philadelphia's rich industrial history and offers the conveniences of a modern, upscale community.
